Korea and then raised in Iowa. NesQuik has been dancing since 2001. At the age
of 19, he started his first break dancing crew in Pella, Iowa now known as
Rabid Pandas Crew. Six years later, he has traveled, performed, battled, and
taught around the U.S. and the world. In 2009, he was selected from 1 of 3
finalists to participate in a special exhibition battle held in South Korea.
Last year, he auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance Season 8 in Los Angeles
and made it to the 3rd round in the competition. He continues to teach, battle,
and perform in the Des Moines area.

teaching in Des Moines until moving to San Diego in 2005 where she discovered,
fell in love and began performing in Flow, Circus/Cirque and Fire Arts in LA

Nina’s Notes:
Woot-Woot! Let’s hear it for 2012!! Bring ON the New Year! Thank you so much to my wonderful CT families for the awesome new fridge and microwave in the Student Lounge!! The gift card will also be used to purchase fans for the studios!! I am feeling very
spoiled with all of the love in all of my holiday gifts. Thank you to all! It means so much.
I am with most of you – I can have a difficult time interpreting the invoices when
multiple items are included. For that reason CMD will be looking to be using different software beginning next school year. We are also hoping that arranging
certain items to always be processed on the same day each month will also help
alleviate confusion. We apologize for the confusion. We are always looking for
different methods to simplify the dance world for our customers and strive to
create an even better experience across the board.
We are beginning to head into our super-crazy but super-fun time of year!! We have Mom & Dad starting rehearsals on the 29th (email the office today – it’s not too late to
participate!). Our 1st competition of the season is in a few short weeks. The Spring Concert will be here before we know it!! Keep up the great work!
Staff Spotlight: Gigi Oerter - gigi@creativemovementdance.com
Gigi earned both her high school diploma and BFA in ballet from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She performed soloist and principal roles with Milwaukee Ballet, San Antonio Ballet, and Des Moines Ballet, touring widely. Gigi also served as Ballet Mistress for Ballet Iowa and has taught for Nevada Dance Theatre, Eugene Ballet Company, San Antonio Ballet, School of Ballet Iowa, Iowa Dance Theatre, Iowa State Dance Festival, and Siouxland Dance Association, plus several local dance studios. She immensely enjoyed her professional dancing and ballet mistress career, but the physical demands inevitably lead to an early retirement. So ever since, Gigi is grateful to give back as a teacher in studios just like where she first fell in love with dance as a child! She has taught at CMD since 2000 and is really excited to work with another new generation of dancers as they gain the control and confidence that comes from their focused and sustained efforts. And it's so much fun to see that translated into more graceful expressiveness! Gigi is impressed with the students' creativity and their family support, and hopes they grow to truly appreciate all dance has to offer the world!

Nina’s
Notes:
The holiday season is upon us! We understand that chaotic schedules come
along with this happy time of year, however it is important for dancers to
attend classes these next few weeks as we prepare for our holiday routines to
be performed in only a few short weeks!
This is also our last opportunity to measure dancers for costume sizes. If your dancer has not been measured have
them see either their instructor or myself the next time they are in for class.
Parents, we need your help in
reminding dancers they are to not wear their dance shoes outside or
their street shoes on the dance floors.
We also need your encouragement to keep dancers waiting indoors and not
outside, but prefer if dancer’s don’t have to wait at all.
It is necessary for people - especially dancers after class
- to wear pants, coat, hat, shoes and gloves! CT dancers are required to dress
warm: cover legs, arms and heads. We
appreciate everyone’s desire to still attend class when they are not feeling
their best. However, if a dancer is
running a fever or could be contagious, please keep them at home to rest and
heal.
As the children are eagerly writing their letters to Santa,
I like to reflect on the many gifts that were received throughout the
year. I am still in amazement of the
numerous “moving” contributions that were made by many CMD families and the
Booster Club – to whom we can also thank for the awesome lobby furniture! Thank you all for your hard work and
time. You help make CMD a happy
home!

CMD takes the total Costume
investment and splits it into 3 separate payments: 2 deposits and 1 remaining
balance. Each Costume Deposit is $45
(plus tax): first deposit was due Nov. 15 – second deposit is due Dec. 15. A costume will NOT be ordered for any dancer
with an outstanding Costume Deposit payment.
The remaining balance will be invoiced in December with a due date of February
15.
Concert Fees are being
divided into two separate payments this year.
A Concert Fee (per dancer) has been invoiced to your account. On December 15 half of that amount is due,
the remaining half is due February 15.

Nina’s
Thank you all for your hard work and
time. You help make CMD a happy
home!

Spotlight: Brittany Huettman - brittany@creativemovementdance.com
CMD
has been a second home to Brittany Huettman. She is one of the original
Creative Movement dancers and the first to start at the age of three (competing
at the age of six) and continue on through high school graduation. She has won
such awards as CMD Student Helper of the Year two years in a row and Joe
Tremaine Dance Scholarship. The Competition Team has given many opportunities
for travel and further study. Brittany has attended competitions in all of our
neighboring states as well as attended studio trips to perform at Walt Disney
World. She also spent a summer in New York taking classes at the Broadway Dance
Center. She has studied under several outstanding choreographers and
instructors. Some of her favorites have been Darrin Henson (choreographer for
NSYNC), Ann Reinking, Tim Santos (assistant director and choreographer for the
Radio City Rockettes), Diana Laurenson and Germaine Salsbery.

·
Shoe Reminder: Please do NOT wear dance
shoes outside, they become damaged and will scratch our new dance floors! We don’t want to track rocks and dirt into our dance
studios. Snow, salt and sand will ruin the floors so no street shoes are
allowed on the dance floors. We have a
student lounge for the dancers to leave their street shoes while in class. Please remember to put your
child’s first and last name inside all of their shoes and belongings. Ballet shoe strings need to be tied in a knot
and cut to 1 inch long and taped to the inside of the shoe. All elastic needs to be properly sewn. White tap shoe ribbons need to be replaced
with white elastic.
·
Dress
Code: Any
student not appropriately dressed for their class will be asked to change. If they do not bring proper dance attire,
they will need to borrow from the studios borrow bin. Hair must be pulled back away from the
student’s face. If the hair is shoulder
length it must be secured in a bun for ballet and a ponytail for all other classes
so that hair cannot fly into the student’s eyes while turning. Please refer to your Dress Requirement Sheet
or stop by the front desk with any questions.
·
Student Lounge:
Dancers
need to pick up after themselves in the Student Lounge. If crumbs and food messes are continued,
snack privileges will be suspended in the lounge. CMD will not provide utensils, including
cups, for the Student Lounge. When
dancer’s notice their stock is getting low, we ask students to re-stock the
supply.
·
Dancers are to be dropped off and picked up on time. CMD does not like dancers to wait outside for
parents to pick them up. CMD does our
best to keep dancers inside but parents need to reinforce this with their
children.
·
Parking:
During
the hours of 4-6pm we ask ALL CMD customers and staff to utilize the north side
of our parking lot to accommodate congestion with The Learning Loft
customers. We appreciate everyone’s
cooperation!
·
Weather
Cancellations: CMD follows the public school system with weather
cancellations. If classes in most Western Des Moines suburbs (West
Des Moines, Urbandale, Waukee & Johnston) are cancelled due to bad weather,
then classes at CMD will be cancelled as well. If the public schools are
delayed in the morning, then morning classes at CMD will not be held. We do not
cancel for extreme cold or heat since we are able to control the temperature
inside the facility. Creative Movement will call local television stations to
announce class cancellations (they typically post on their website only). We
will also send out an email and put the information on our Facebook page,
answering machine (331-1831) along with the Happenings page and Calendar on our
website: www.creativemovementdance.com.
